How to Automatically Link to Twitter Profiles in Your Content

In the growing tech world, there’s so many social media platforms out there it can make your head spin. Luckily, one of the dominant ones for tech and cutting edge news is Twitter – there, you can gain followers by the hundreds to push your content out.

It’s also a great way to share credit ideas and thoughts – that’s why linking to someone’s Twitter is almost as powerful as a link to their websites. Sometimes that is just exhausting though, so I decided to automate it! Announcing my third little plugin, which enables you to automatically link to Twitter profiles!

How does it work?

Whenever you type a twitter handle, i.e. “@Danny_Santoro”, it automatically converts it to a link straight to that user’s profile, like so: @Danny_Santoro. It opens in a new tab, so they stay on your site too 🙂

A-Ha! What if I type an email address? Will that cause problems?

Nope! It’s all taken care of. Characters before the @ symbol will tell the script to keep moving, so it only picks up Twitter handles.

It’s a quick, simple plugin that avoids you having to mess with your functions.php file – in fact, it’s extremely lightweight, coming in at just 5 lines of code. With that said, what are you waiting for? Head over to the WordPress Plugin Repository to download (and rate) it now, and then be sure to leave any ideas you have in the comments below!
